Will the Champions Trophy Take Place In Pakistan? Jay Shah Set a Meeting With PCB For Discussion

This year’s ICC General Meeting scheduled to be held in Colombo is likely to provide some action since BCCI secretary Jay Shah is likely to be in attendance. There will be more reviews between Jay Shah and PCB officials in the coming days except the hosting rights for the ICC champions trophy 2025. As far as this matter is concerned, the official agenda does not list it as an issue to be discussed; however, expectation dictates that it might be an issue under discussion by the ICC, BCCI and PCB.

The tournament is scheduled to start from the 19th of February to the 9th of March with the 10th March considered as a backup day for the finals. Scheduled to be played in three weeks time, the much hyped India Pakistan clash is scheduled for March 1 at the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. This ground will witness all India’s games for the tournament.

The Champions Trophy 2025 offers fans yet another set to cheer up cricket but the controversy rises in the background. Will India play cricket in Pakistan and revive the tradition of India Pakistan cricket series just like in early 20’s?

Security threats and issues are arguably the main factors that continue to overshadow the field.

It is worth knowing that due to some political issues India has not visited Pakistan since 2008. Risk issues are still regarded to be vital challenges in the process. BCCI, the Indian cricket governing body, has come out on record that they will ask for a neutral venue. It is questioned and a possible equal countermeasure from Pakistan is also considered.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is rock solid in their decision this time. They’ve invested heavily in improving security infrastructure. Their vision is to provide a complete home soil experience, fostering national pride and showcasing their cricketing spirit.

There are indications that Pakistan is planning a Potential Boycott and not to honor the 2026 T20 World Cup jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka if India fails to play the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

The topic discussed is a diplomatic one; it is up to the International Cricket Council (ICC). They have to come up with a resolution that would make both India and Pakistan happy and at the same time, would run the tournament smoothly. That may be laid in the coming ICC conference.

One thing’s for sure: fans crave an India-Pakistan clash on Pakistani soil. Their historical rivalry is a major draw, and India’s absence would spoil the tournament’s spirit.
